Village faces

Queen of the Netherlands visited new sculpture project 'Village Faces'

Beatrix the queen of the Netherlands (herself a sculptor) visited on the 19th of June the New sculpture project ‘Dorpsgezichten’ (Village Faces). This project is an initiative from sculptor Adri A.C. de Fluiter and the foundation NatureArt Drenthe. The foundation is organising since 2005 yearly an international art in nature symposium (with exhibition) in the forest near the small village Schoonoord. This village belongs to the municipality Coevorden. Every year10 artists are selected on certain themes.

Sculptural works which are made in this symposium get a second life in the project that the queen was visiting. In this project, that runs till 2012, there are placed about 20 sculptures/installations in eight village also belonging to Coevorden. On the 19th of June it was the first fase of the project with realising 7 artworks. The queen was visiting them all and she was very pleased by the result. ‘Amazing’she said ‘such a quality and such nice, very well chosen locations’.
From know on the people can visit this trail of about 40 kilometers with the villages: Schoonoord, Wezuperbrug, Wezup, Zweeloo, Aalden, Meppen, Gees en Oosterhesselen.
